Planning a Day Out

Last Saturday we spent a very long, but enjoyable day out at the car races. We had just over an hours' drive and planned on eating two meals away from home. Since we don't enjoy the foods served at the raceway, we packed a picnic lunch.

Here is a photo of our stash of goodies before going into the cooler:

If you are looking to have a little extra spending money on special trips and outings plan head for food and supplies. Everything you purchase at your destination tends to cost more. Think of the $3 and $4 Cokes at a theme park or the $8 bottle of sunscreen at the beach. (You could also look at this as a way to allow more outings for your family, if you can bring the total cost of an outing down

Plan something easy and inexpensive like sandwiches, chips and carrot sticks for lunch. Even if you want to throw in some special treats it is still cheaper (and healthier) than buying what is readily available at the destination.

For example, when we head up north to the lake for weekend it would be easy to stop at a fast food place and drop $10 or $12 but we take homemade sandwiches and stop at a rest area. Total cost-- about $3. Hey -- it works for us!

If making sandwiches means more outings with my beloved, I'm ready to whip them up!

Glad to hear you had a good time!

Great reminder about packing a lunch on outtings.

What did you use to wrap your sandwiches up? Did you put them in zip lock baggies with wax paper?

We don't like "soggy" sandwiches.
